The Sellouts/Full Tilt/ Independent
Raul is currently the drummer for Ottawa’s only The Who tribute act, the Sellouts, up-and-coming thrash band Full Tilt and he is about to release his first recording as a solo artist.
Hailing from Mexico City, Raul grew up listening to his father’s record collection and got his first taste of rock music by listening to The Beatles, Rolling Stones, Queen, Pink Floyd and Jethro Tull. He was only able to start playing drums at the age of 17, being heavily influenced by The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Yes, Genesis and Dream Theater during his teenage years. Raul is mostly a self-taught whose biggest drumming heroes are Carl Palmer, Mike Portnoy, Neil Peart, John Bonham, Keith Moon amongst many others.
His first serious project was Mexican progressive rock act Epitaph in which besides drumming duties he was also the lead singer and lyricist, the band released two albums (Human, Not Humane – 2015 and A Song In Time – 2018) and toured Mexico extensively from 2014 -2017.
In 2018, Raul moved to Ottawa where he joined local power metal act Machine Messiah, the long-standing project of Bobby Stones, ex-vocalist for the legendary Exciter. The band opened up for artists like Anvil, Hammerfall, Warbringer, Enforcer, Glen Drover, THOR, amongst many others.
Raul is now part of The Sellouts, Ottawa’s only tribute for one of his favorite bands: The Who. The Sellouts are currently a mainstay of the Ottawa bar and brewery circuit and have a 2024 full of upcoming shows.
As all good drummers do, Raul has many projects on the go. Since 2019, he has been a part of Full Tilt, an Ottawa-based thrash metal project currently aiming to release their first EP in 2024. He has also shown his versatility by playing sub shows for latin pop group NortNSur, honouring his latino roots.
Finally, Raul is very proud to announce that his first solo musical effort is coming soon in 2024 and will be launched on his own website, the music is a mixture of all his influences and feature an array of exceptional Ottawa musicians.
Raul proudly plays Dream Cymbals, Yamaha drums and Vater drumsticks.
